FACE TO FACE: The ubiquitous “selfie” — the term was included in the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013 — has been with us for about as long as photography. But today’s hastily snapped smartphone shots are a far cry from the art of self-portraiture. Drawn from the collection of Audrey and Sydney Irmas, the exhibition has been organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and features 66 photographs ranging from the 19th century to today. The artists who captured their own images in photographs include some familiar names, too: Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus, Andy Warhol and Catherine Opie.
